Campus Recreation

Campus Recreation promotes the lifelong pursuit of wellness by giving ETSU students everything they need to stay active and fit during their years on campus! A variety of recreational programs, facilities and resources, including leadership and employment opportunities, are available, with programming offered in the areas of aquatics, fitness and wellness, intramural sports, sport clubs, and outdoor adventure. The Basler Center for Physical Activity (CPA) is the home of Campus Recreation. There are weight and cardio space; aerobics, yoga, martial arts and cycling studios; an indoor climbing wall and pool; basketball/volleyball and racquetball/squash courts; and more. Campus Recreation also operates the Basler Team Challenge and Aerial Adventure Course, the University Woods trail system, a disc golf course, tennis courts, and various field spaces. From cycle classes to outdoor adventure trips, to flag football and beyond! Campus Recreation offers opportunities for everyone to get involved.

Today we wanted to give you a little CPA one on one.

First, when you walk into the front door, you will scan your ETSU ID or hand your card to the staff member, and they will scan it for you. At the Member Services Desk, you can sign up, pay for trips, personal training sessions, swim lessons, and a host of other things. When you enter, look up, there is our climbing wall. If you look to the right, you'll see the main group fitness studio where the CPA hosts some of their 40 plus weekly fitness classes. Adjacent to the studio is our casual care childcare room. Our childcare staff will watch your child aged three months to eight years for up to 90 minutes per day so you can work out or take a fitness class. Come around around this way, you will find our racquetball courts, pool and stretching area, and our indoor cycling studio. To attend a class, you must check out a seat reservation card from the equipment desk.

Following the stairs up, we land on the main fitness floor. We have 19,000 square feet of weight and cardio space. Walking through the fitness floor, we come to the equipment desk. Here you can check out towels, locker keys, weight belts, basketballs, seat reservation cards for indoor cycling, and lots more. The pool is open in the morning at lunchtime and in the evening to accommodate your schedule. We also have weekend hours and family swim as well. In addition to open lap swim, we offer a variety of aquatics programming that can include SOP yoga, swim lessons, battleship, kayak lessons, dive-in movies, etc.

We can head up the main stairs to the second floor. Here you will find the track. Eight laps around is a mile. To the right of the track is the entrance to our yoga and martial arts studios and another set of restrooms. When you come to take any of our group fitness classes, all equipment is provided for you. You literally have to bring nothing but you, your ETSU ID, and a water bottle.

If you have any questions about the CPA, what we do here, or the programs we offer, please do not hesitate to contact us. Call us at 439-7980 or check out our website, ETSU.edu/rec.
